Range-topping Lamborghini Urus rumored anew

November 25, 2009 by nitram

Lamborghini Reventon RoadsterSo you like the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, but you’re struggling to justify the price. After all, it may be just as fast as the Reventón, but it only costs a third of that range-topping bull. You like that it’s the latest limited-edition hypercar from Sant’Agata Bolognese, but will everyone think you’re slumming by not getting the most expensive bull in the barn? Come to think of it, maybe you can hold out for the Reventón Roadster, which should easily surpass the coupe as the ne plus ultra in the Lambo lineup. Of course, you could just stick with your ordinary LP640-4 or LP650-4 Roadster a little longer and wait for the Murcielago replacement in a year or two.

When that so-called Jota finally debuts, it will bring with it a new carbon fiber chassis and an equally new direct-injected 6.0-liter V12 thought to be good for at least 700 horsepower. Yeah, that’s probably the way to go. After all, the economy isn’t exactly the best right now and plunking down $1.5M for a new car might make others unnecessarily envious. Haters. Of course, if you wait too long, you might find yourself debating waiting a little longer still for the Jota-besting halo car from Lamborghini, the rumored Urus.

CARS UK is quoting “a source close to Lamborghini” when they talk about this new halo vehicle, which is expected to take on all comers, especially that “FX70″ Enzo-replacement coming out of Maranello. Using a modified Jota chassis, the Urus will go on an even stricter diet to make it a featherweight lighter heavyweight. It will drop the few bits of aluminum that are expected to be used on the Jota and go all carbon fiber. That, active aerodynamics, and a nearly 800 horsepower version of the Jota V12 in its engine bay should allow the Urus to challenge even the Bugatti Veyron with a sub-3-second 0-60mph time. The real question becomes — Can you wait until 2012 for the Urus or will you buckle a year earlier and pop for the Jota in 2011? You know what, just get both.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 gets a ‘Fast and Furious’ Treatment by JB Car Design

October 19, 2009 by nitram

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 by JB Car DesignTo be completely honest, we find nothing wrong with the way that the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 looks or goes. Nonetheless, if you happen to disagree with us and feel comfortable spending tens of thousands of euros or dollars to spruce up your LP 640 in a “Fast and Furious” kind of way be our guest. The proposal pictured here was created by JB Car Design, a tuning company from Germany that offers an array of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades for the Murcielago.

Starting with the engine bay, the tuner provides buyers with two options. The first package that will set you back €28,000 or about $41,300 at today’s exchange rates, bumps the V12′s output to 710HP while the second performance kit, to 750HP (pricing was not disclosed) allowing the Italian supercar to reach a top speed of 370km/h or 230 mph.

On the outside, after painting the car in a special finish called “Blood to Black Diamond” JB Car Design kits out the Murcielago with an aerodynamic-package consisting of front and rear spoilers, rear diffuser, side skirts with modified air inlets, a carbon fiber bonnet and a new cover for the engine bay.

The supercar rides on new three-piece 20-inch Schmidt Revolution alloy wheels shod in Michelin tires size 265/30 R20 up front and 335/30 R20 at the back.

The price for a completed model (including the cost of a new Murcielago LP 640) is €500,000 or around $740,000 at today’s exchange rates. The car pictured here, which is a 2008MY Murcielago with 9,000km on the odo, is also up for sale at price of €355,000 / $525,000.

Lamborghini Reventon Loses its Top

September 17, 2009 by nitram

Lamborghini Reventon RoadsterTwo years ago, Lamborghini wowed Frankfurters with its limited-edition, stealth-fighter-inspired, $1.4 million Reventón coupe. (Only 20 were built for public consumption; nine came to the U.S.) And although we can’t say we saw its equally stealth follow-up coming (har!), Lamborghini has chosen the 2009 Frankfurt auto show to unveil the even rarer and more expensive topless version of the Reventón. Of course, when we say even rarer, we can’t quantify by how much, because Lambo hints that “less than 20” will be built, although it also confusingly adds that 20 is a nice, round number.

Like the Murciélago-based Reventón coupe, the roadster swaps all body panels for different segments of wing and tail sections of retired F-117s. We kid, but it sure looks that way, with its aggressive, forward-thrusted air intakes up front, hungry-looking scoops on the side, and pancake-flat rear flanks featuring four spiney glass louvers offering a sweet view of the Reventón’s raucous V-12 heart. The Reventón roadster’s top is identical to the one found on the Murciélago roadster.

Next Murciélago gets in shape

September 7, 2009 by nitram

Lamborghini MurcielagoMeet the next ultimate Lambo!

These pictures give us the best look yet at how the raging bull of the future will shape up – and it’s set to eclipse the existing Murciélago in every way.

The car has yet to be given a name, but it’s expected to combine Lamborghini owner Audi’s aluminium spaceframe chassis with a carbon fibre bodyshell.

That will make it much lighter than the Murciélago it replaces – and guarantees stunning performance to go with the incredible looks.

Up front is a pronounced spoiler and fresh headlamps – but designers have reserved the biggest changes for the rear. They have moved the Murciélago’s trademark angular exhaust closer to the ground, while new strip-like LED tail-lights replace the current square units.

Lamborghini MurcielagoPower is expected to come from a 6.0-litre V12 with around 700bhp – that would propel the car from 0-60mph in just over three seconds.

The new Lambo will also be wider and longer, while four-wheel drive ensures it’s firmly planted on the road.

Preliminary prototypes have been spied near Germany’s Nürburgring track, but the car is unlikely to arrive before 2012.

The newcomer will also pave the way for future generations of hybrid Lambos.

It will be the brand’s first car to use efficient technologies such as stop-start and energy regeneration, and is a major step towards bosses’ plans to deliver the first-ever Lamborghini hybrid by 2015.

Is it true? Lamborghini to reveal Reventon Roadster at Frankfurt show

August 24, 2009 by nitram

Lamborghini Reventon RoadsterRumors of an open-air version of the exclusive Lamborghini Reventón have been circulating for months, with recent reports suggesting that the company has already shown a pre-production prototype to some of its best customers. Now sources suggest that the Raging Bull brand could be preparing to unveil the Reventón Roadster at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, with only ten to be built, packing the more potent 670 horsepower engine from the SuperVeloce.

By slapping on some edgy body panels and glitzy instruments, Sant’Agata managed to bump the Murcielago’s price up into seven-figure territory, and they could do it again by lopping off the Reventón’s roof (or slapping said panels on the Murci Roadster, depending on how you look at it). But while they could very well unveil the car in Frankfurt, with the Balboni edition Gallardo yet to make its public debut, they may also opt to make good on their commitment of a new product at every major auto show and keep the Reventón Roadster under wraps until a later date.
